THE LAND
- megalithic site of ancient ruined village in heart of brittany
- rich wildlife and birdlife
- beautiful old woodland and stream
The land is reached 200m down a small track off a quiet country road. Most of the 6 acres is old boulder strewn chestnut woodland. Walkways drop down to the stream on which there is a disused watermill. The land is very rich in wildlife, with deer, woodpeckers, buzzards, otters, salamanders, owls, jays and badgers.
There has been habitation on the land for thousands of years, as shown by the ancient boulder workings thoughtout the woods. Maps from the 1700’s show a chateau or castle at the centre of a village of around six stone houses. We know it was lived in by Charlotte Robin of Kernombre in 1711, but now all that remains of the castle is the well, larger archway pieces and buried crumbling walls, some of which we were dug out and built into the Groundhouse. Three of the stone houses are still standing from that time, and one is now renovated as Plumstone Cottage.
